Another pheasant opener has come and gone. Had a blast with my friends that treat me like family. Managed to scratch a limit both days and watched Travis Wiklander pull off a sweet triple with an old model 12. We were short a few great dogs but still watched some great dog work and they certainly earned their dog food haha. It really set its foot into me this weekend as i cruised around various farm grounds how much this land around us is changing. Watching acreages get bulldozed in, fencelines torn out, tiling every low spot...whats next? Seems to be an all take and no give mentality were stuck in. The thought that bothers me the most is my children, nieces/nephews, cousins, friends children will be coming of that age that many of us started our passion for the outdoors in the next 5-10years....but will they be able to go anywhere? I cringe at the thought of paying to hunt, iowa is only a 1% public land state, so im not sure where time will take this situation. Im hoping we see some crp acres come back with grain prices leveling off but hard saying. Anyways, hope the pictures are enjoyed, as it was mentioned over the weekend Enjoy while you can, next year we could be looking at nothing staring at dirt.
