Another reason to not try out a new recipe for guests, especially when the gathering is at your own home. For those of you who know my history (though usually on a holiday), this will not surprise you, but I underestimated the size of the cake pans for this new recipe (actually, I questioned it, but continued to fill them, anyway). Within the first 10 minutes of baking - of which I was out of the room - the batter started to rise......and overflow into the oven. Thankfully, I have two ovens, and used the option of firing up the second oven, but not before the ENTIRE downstairs was completely smoked out. I have 3 fans going, and windows open, but I apologize to my bible study peeps now - hopefully the house wont still have the appearance of being at a rock concert when you get here. And, if I have some store bought dessert here tonight, it means the cake didnt survive the oven transfer. :(
