Another soul has been lost. My grandpa Malay was one of the best guys around. Not only was he always happy to spend time with me but he was so gracious. One story he told me that Ill never forget, and that I think everyone will enjoy, was about his baseball career. Being Irish, he wasnt very tall or all that muscular but boy could he swing and run. During his high school years, baseball was his life. He was unstoppable. The Red Sox offered my grandfather a spot on their team right after graduation but Don was a Yankees fan - so he went to fight in WWII instead. Stupid, yes. Humorous, sure. I loved him. He fought in the Battle of Normandy and lived to tell the tale. He always supported my music and told me I should be proud of my heritage. He helped pay for my first set of pipes. He always bought stunning dresses for my sisters and I when we were younger. Hes was the first man who had ever made me feel like a true princess. His hat collection will live on. And the memories I have of him will never fade. He was a beautiful, wonderful, absolutely magnificent friend and his death has been a real life changing moment for me. I hope tonight you all tell your loved ones how important they are to you. I wish I couldve had one more day with Donald Malay before he left. Sweet dreams poppy, I will always love you.
