Another spiritual, political, and economic rant. Thanks for listening :) I have come to the realization that there is a MAJOR flaw in economic thinking... people dont act rationally. Most economic models are founded on the idea of rational behavior on the part of the consumer. But in my 20 years as a pastor (and 47 years of personal experience) I have learned that people seldom (if ever) make sound and rational choices. We are impulsive. We are generally selfish. We are most often guided by our appetites. We think with our hearts rather than our heads. And we do not understand the meaning of the word patience. What we want, we want NOW!!! Regardless of the price or cost. Who cares about tomorrow if I can have it today??? Bottom line? Human behavior is completely, totally, and undeniably irrational. Hence, the need for leadership that understands the human condition. The realm of influence doesnt matter. Be it personal, family, church, work, the nation, or the world. Education is great. Book knowledge is valuable. But unless our leaders also know the human heart they will never be able to successfully guide. God, grant us leaders with both intelligence and wisdom.
