Another successful trip to Houston complete. As I mentioned in yesterdays post her eye muscles doctor is not satisfied with the results so she has scheduled Ash for another surgery in October. Her ocular plastics doctors said he feels confident that he has completed all she needs from him at this time. He did explain to Ash that it appears that her peripheral nerve that was severed in the brain got confused when healing. He said this happens a lot. This nerve is the one that controls movement in the face. When it is severed or damaged it causes facial paralysis in the side of the face that is controlled by the damaged nerve. We were originally told she would never regain movement in that side of her face but she has made improvement. It does seem to have healed with some confusion which causes a different part of her face to move than what she trying to move. Example would be when she puckers her lips her eye winks or closes without her wanting her eye to move at all. She ask him if it would ever heal correctly. He informed her that he had never seen that type of injury heal completely and it more than likely would not. Her reply to him was well doc you havent seen every patient in the world and I have faith it will heal and I will have a full smile and full use of my face again. He also reminded her that he placed the gold weight in her eyelid thinking he would never have to remove it but she proved him wrong there and he is keeping the faith with her that she will continue to improve. She has now made it her goal to be his first patient to ever walk back in his office with a complete smile and controlled facial movement after this type of injury. This young lady is a fighting survivor and full of faith and strength. The power of prayer has helped her keep the strength to move mountains and overcome so much more than the doctors ever gave us hope in. She wants so badly to have a complete smile again and we are praying for a complete healing of this nerve and the acceptance of Gods will.
