Another update. We arrived in Las Vegas yesterday afternoon and with having driven for a few days in relative desert, to come back into chaotic 6 lane highways again was a bit traumatic. The hotels here are unlike anything you could imagine. Ours is New York, New York, a replica of the city with statue of Liberty, Empire State building and highrise all greeting you at the door and then when you go in a sea of noise, flashing lights, poker machines, an people as far as you can see. We went for a walk to someof the other hotels, just on dusk , but temps still well into the high 30s, and got so traumatised, we ran back into our room and ordered room service for tea. Today we had the most amazing bus, helicopter, bost tour of tge west rim of the grand canyon with a tour guide who had specialised in geology and zoology at university so he gave us a fab commentary on how it was all formed and the plants and animals. While we were up there there were a couple of scrub fires very close to the road they were helicoptering monsoon buckets into. Didnt manage go fill my bucket list of standing on the Eagle Rock viewing platform as there was an hours wait in a queue and they couldnt wait but got to climb a jolly good shale hill at Guano Point which gave us a 360 deg view anyway. If youve seen photos of the G C, its just like that and more with the Colorado River a mile below. The edges dont have any barriers and I dont know how they havent lost anyone over there. It would be so easy to just slide on over! Then on the way home we had a stop at the Hoover dam which is quite something. Built in the 1930s its quite a feat of engineering. Everytime we got out of the bus you felt this blast of enormously hot air about as hot as if you were checking a cake in a thermowave oven. We just back in hotel. Everyone dressed up for a nights entertainment then heres the scruffy dusty sweaty Strathdees coming in the door of tge bar for a beer and a chip! We might look out a show tonight but Lindsays just fallen asleep on the bed so dont think much of the chances and its 6.45 already. Flying to San Fran tomorrow to meet our American friends who have borrowed an apartment overlooking the bay for a few days including the 4th July! Hope you all keeping well and warm!
