Another young child has died after being left in a hot car, this time in Utah. At least 18 others have died in the same terrible way. Yet only one state in the nation has a law that would protect a Good Samaritan who tries to rescue a child in these dangerous situations from liability for breaking into the vehicle. New York should become the second, and I am sponsoring legislation to make that happen. No one should have to worry about being sued when they are trying to save a childs life. In situations like this, the difference between life and death is often a matter of minutes. Encouraging people to act when they see a child trapped in a car will help save lives. Thats why we need this law in New York State.
