Type of emotional support needed discussed & sorted out with partner (how NB is this or that questions, received in 2nd session….) Partner has decided on level of participation during labour & birth: couch, team-mate or witness (book a Doula if participation is not going to be active!) Still doing the pelvic floor exercises (kegels), squat, pelvic tilt and tailor sit as part of preparation for labour? Satisfied with Doctor / Gyne of choice Satisfied with hospital of choice Satisfied with Paediatrician of choice Baby room ready / a place for baby to sleep Necessary baby equipment bought: something to sleep in (blankets etc.) and on (bed) something to travel in, safely (snug&go / car-seat) something to bath in (bath) and with (baby-soap, shampoo, towel) enough clothes for at least +-7 days nappy changing area ready + necessary nappies, creams, etc. enough nappies for 6 weeks (+-336 nappies?) good baby-care book Stocked up on enough healthy grab & eat food for the “babymoon” period / frozen dinners prepared / “promised” food “booked” (social support) “Hospital suitcase” packed Progressive relaxation well practiced, have the ability to let go of stress…. List of strategies for comfort well practiced with birth-buddy / partner / doula / (touch, music, visualising, massaging, breathing, positioning, water (hot packs), fluids (ice/juice), birth ball, moving, keep bladder empty, physical / emotional support, decided on type of healthy snack for labour) REMEMBER RRR!!!! Music CD cut / made for labour – auditory learners Decided on object / picture to focus on – visual learners Route to hospital plotted Hospital visited, did a labour ward tour, pre-admission forms filled in Birth plan written / thought through (what we want before, during and after birth, how long we are going to stay in hospital, breastfeed directly after birth, NO procedures or examination done on my baby without me or my partner being present, etc.) (Example received in labour session) Decided on level and/or use of pharmacological pain relief and discussed with doctor Knows signs of labour and is able to measure a contraction Knows the process of labour stages 1-2-3-4 Ready with 7 “informed consent” questions in case something does not go as planned Chosen someone to tell the birth-story to (part of preparation for parenthood!) Flat / inverted nipples corrected / addressed Any breastfeeding questions answered, understand the importance of early feeding (within ½-1 hour after birth), correct latching, demand feeding (baby decides when & how long), law of “supply & demand” “Breastfeeding After Reduction” questions answered Know where to get breastfeeding help and support if needed Breastfeeding “corner” set up at home Responsibilities after baby’s arrival reorganized (who is going to do what) / plan to share responsibilities (team work) Best qualities as a….etc., discussed with partner (example received in baby class) Strong marriage/partnership (if not, get counselling now!)
