Anthony-Burke-Future-of-Architecture Learning from Los Vegas interview assignment for History and Theory-Critique with Anthony Burke Questions: Some believe that modern architecture is about changing the environment rather than enhancing what is there. When designing, as an architect, do you feel learning from the existing landscape then further developing it is a higher or lower priority to creating a unique, never before seen innovative design? Why is this? During our class discussion there was a debate on whether the Sydney Opera House was a decorated shed or a duck. The vote was essentially 50-50 reason being the Opera House doesnt serve the acoustic purpose with full potential, then again the form does not resemble or serve for the function. Who would you agree with? Is the Sydney Opera House a duck or a decorated shed? We would like to know your opinion on ducks versus decorated sheds. They both serve great purposes in the design world, but what do you personally believe is the best direction for future architects to take? And why? Many techniques have been introduced into the realm of architecture in these past couple centuries. Modern architecture is said to incorporate a lot of programming and structural techniques, where older methods derive from image, tradition and iconology. Is Modern architecture a step back? Is modern architecture a step forward? Why to you believe so?
