Anticipating Negative... Much of our negative feeling arise because we think something may happen in the future. We believe that the likelihood of the negative event is high - thus our emotions are created. As you pay attention to your thinking some of you will notice this to be the case. If it is, then gently change the thought from the negative to the positive... What if this negative thing will happen? to What if this positive thing might happen? What if I make a fool of myself while giving a presentation? to What if the presentation goes well and people love it? What if no one likes me? to What if I make a good impression and people like me? What if I fail at this task? toWhat if I succeed at doing this task? etc... Focusing on the negative is just a habit that you were taught. You can change. You just have to notice you are doing it and then gently focus on the same situation but the Optimistic aspect of that situation. The more you re-focus the more automatic it will be. Do NOT beat yourself up for gravitating to the negative - it just is just an automatic habit for now. Instead applaud yourself when you notice your negative anticipation thinking and then restate those thoughts with the positive ones. Be gentle and be patient - it really does work.
