Antonio Luna at work with his microscope at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, 1890s. He did research on histology and bacteriology at the Institut Pasteur with Professor Latteaux and then did further studies on Medical Chemistry with Professor Laffons. His medical thesis on malaria, El Hematozoario del Paludismo, published in 1893, was well-received by medical scientists and physicians. He returned to Manila and was commissioned by the Spanish government to make a study on the bacteriology of contagious diseases.
