Any one think this is a good idea? The city is not just negligent, - TopicsExpress

Any one think this is a good idea? The city is not just negligent, but out and out hostile to urban wildlife. Scudder Pond was deeded as a wildlife preserve. How does that work when the city wires off the conduit pipes that connect Scudder Pond to the Whatcom Lagoon and the Lake Whatcom? It has deliberately created an isolated habitat island, which contradicts the critical areas provisions of the GMA and the city critical area ordinance to prevent isolation of species and habitat. It allows the Whatcom Row Association to kayak into the lagoon and down into Whatcom Creek. And Asian clams are a problem in Whatcom Creek, and presumably, therefore, the lagoon, but it has no plan to control or remove the clams despite the harm caused to wetlands, and freshwater aquatic environments by invasive species and plants. And ask the city for a wildlife and plant species assessment for Scudder Pond to ensure no net loss under city management. Shouldnt a baseline standard be the starting point from which the city assumes control?
