Any time an American soldier is free from captivity it’s something to celebrate, and I am happy for the parents of Sgt. Bergdahl whose four-year ordeal of a son in captivity is over. As a parent, I cant begin to fathom the pain and fear they have lived with. I pray for their sons recovery and also for them to find peace. However, I am very troubled about the circumstances that culminated in his release. The unfolding situation not only makes me concerned about our courageous men and women in uniform, but also for our country’s security. I am greatly disturbed that the Obama Administration failed to notify Congress in advance of this rescue plan and negotiations with known terrorists. When the administration went after Osama Bin-Laden, it informed Congress in advance and kept us engaged in the process. The president should have done the same here. I fear that the consequences of this trade will have far-reaching consequences on U.S. national security.
