Anyone every had a child who breath holds? Breathholding can be very alarming, but usually isnt dangerous and doesnt cause long term damage. Often it is used as a response to frustration. When dealing with breath holding, as with any first aid, try to remain as calm as possible - the child will exhale, but not inhale, their face may turn blue and they may briefly lose consciousness (at this point the brain then takes over and their breathing quickly returns). - Try and remain calm and observe the child, but with minimal attention. - Contact the emergency services if the child remains unresponsive for a period of time or does not resume breathing. - Give the child attention when then are breathing normally.
