Anyone remember this tv-movie from 1983? Domestic terrorists put a nuke on a tug boat off Charleston. Most of the acting = cheesy melodrama now. But fast forward to 1:25:11 in the video. I think its one of the most terrifying film sequences ever, and I remember it well from my youth After the boat is raided by DELTA, the NEST team goes into disarm the nuke. We see them working so competently starting at 1:25:11... but they soon lose control of the situation. As film craft, the sequence is brilliantly done precisely because its not overdone w/special fx. The humanity of the moment is entirely believable and rocks the viewer. Watch and youll be reminded of the awful power of nukes, youll be reminded of how quickly we can lose control of what we create, and youll have that rough day at the office put into perspective. These three minutes prove that young film-makers dont need Michael Bay special fx blow outs to create jaw-dropping moments. This also reminds me that everyone sure DOES need to pray humanity is protected from the unthinkable and for those standing up to keep us from harms way. Yikes.
