Anyone who considers Alejandro Jodorowsky a visionary must hate - TopicsExpress

Anyone who considers Alejandro Jodorowsky a visionary must hate cinema. His psych-outs arent only laughably inept, the animal cruelty in them is inexcusable. If you think this cinematic mountebank has vision then youve never seen a film by Ophuls (either one) or Buñuel or Godard or Svankmajer or Renoir or Dreyer or Murnau or Bellochio or Vigo or Franju or Varda or Imamura or Sirk, etc. Or maybe youve never seen a film at all. (Of course, Tyler Perry at his very worst is better than anything by Jodorowsky.) As bad as David Lynchs Dune is, the thought of watching Jodorowskis cobbled together version of Herberts doorstop sends cold chills down my spine. Yes its true: I found the Herbert novel itself absolutely unreadable. Giant worms and spice and sand? No thanks! (I shant mention the appalling prose. Or did I just?) Still. (Lynch, by the way, only agreed to make Dune because he was promised $8,000,000 to make Blue Velvet if he did.) And, yes, I hate the animal cruelty in Godards Weekend, too. But at least that film really IS briliant and visionary, whatever its infelicities (and there are more than a few).
