Anyone who would bully this lovely girl for her startling and exotic beauty is a type of stiff-necked Normalist which itself may be a diagnostic condition. These unfortunate souls are so terrified of anything outside their narrow scope of rightness that anything even on its periphery is to be stamped down, ground under, buffed smooth, forced to fit into the tunnel through which they see the world. Sadly, this type of Normalism is so abundantly common in the United States that treatment is difficult. Its the sad reason why this otherwise favored land suffers such a dearth of faeries, unicorns, and other fragile and wild things that so fuel the imagination. Toxic Normalists and their dictatorship of our day to day life are a large part of why our magic is so weak and so isolated. Its all their fault that what little is left tends to get wasted in desperate bursts like the geysers of Yellowstone. I am sure there exist simple cosmetic steps this girl could use to disappear from Normalist radar and pass unnoticed among them. I understand the utility of acquiring proficiency in such disguises. But the very thought of this unusual and unusually fine work in the art of humanity making use of these disguises for any purpose other than to enhance the impact of her rarity causes a sudden strong physiological response in me. Its the same feeling I experience every time I see Victor Laszlo, having been denied the Letters of Transit, march downstairs and demand that the band play La Marseillaise. I need to swallow but I cant swallow. My eyes begin to leak copious amounts of lacrimal secretion. For some reason, I am filled with a sudden desire to shoot Nazis. Not very charitable, I guess, but I am also something of an odd duck. My oddity is neurological and also serves as a bit of a lightning rod for the Normalists. I twitch my leg to self-comfort. When I make eye contact, it generally means, not that youve engaged my polite attention, but that I do not trust you. If Im looking you in the eye, it means that I am expecting you to make an aggressive move that I will need to counter or that I feel the need to con you. Either way, it is NOT a compliment. This tends to cause most of them to find me potentially dangerous. So most of the time, I have to con people before I can get to know them enough to trust me. Its wearying and scary. But such is my lot. I would beg this girl, if she does choose to study the same stagecraft Ive studied in order to fake her way among the Normalists, to make as minimal use of it as is possible. Job interviews. Court appearances. Other instances where your status as a unique and complex delight is sadly an impediment. In all other times and places, use your enhanced knowledge of masking to enhance, not hide your arresting appearance. Wear a lot of orange. Black eyeliner to make your onyx eye leap from your face. Shade and texture the darker patches of your skin. Outline your pale lips but color them with the lightest lavender shade you can possibly get away with. Whenever possible, present yourself to those Normalists such that they take one look at you, then take another. Make them wonder if thats the real you or a cunning fashion statement. At least thats what I do. But maybe Im not the best example.
