Anything that comes from RT is directly from Putins apparatchiks. So now they claim the U.S. and the Saudis are manipulating oil prices to effect regime change in Russia. Lets remember that crude oil prices (even adjusted for inflation, link in the first comment) were below the present level of just under $70 per barrel for years until about 2005, and dropped precipitously again in 2008 during the beginning of the Great Recession when some oil producers tried to compensate by spiking production just as demand was falling in the west. The truth is, Putin has severely weakened his own economy by seizing healthy companies and giving them to his friends, thereby chasing both foreign and domestic investors out of the country (one reason he is now offering a probably worthless amnesty to Russians willing to come back with their money) and bringing international sanctions on Russia by his reckless actions in Ukraine. This has left Russia much more heavily dependent on the price of oil than they were even just a few years ago.
