Anything thats worth doing, they say, Is worth doing well. Why do people chose to use English language the wrong way? Indeed English language is the most abused language the entire universe, yet it is one language in which over 90% of users claim fluency. The situation is even worse among English students, and other undergraduates and graduates alike. Is that fair? You meet people on the street and say Hi; Hello echoes right back. You get introduced to strangers and you say to them, How are you? Or Good Morning or Hi. You chat with friends on Facebook and you write spoken English, Fink, Fank, Bufday,Gal.... What the heck is all this?! Punctuations? That one has long gone in the drain. Time and again, I have wondered how all these undergraduates and graduates made WASCE and UTME. Its sad. Really. English has two parts: written and spoken English. Use written English when you communicate in writing, or spoken English when you communicate your idea in speeches. Its no big deal. Greetings such as Hi, Hello... are usually repeated in response. A different phrase is used when phrases are used. For example.....Mr A: Good morning. ....Mr B: How are you? When youre introduced to someone for the first time, simply tell them How do you do? .And the response is the same: How do you do? Please forgive English of all of its offences and accord it the respect it deserves.
