Aphrodite of Milos (Venus de Milo), sculpted around 130 BC, is one of the premier examples of post-Classical Greek statuary of the Hellenistic period. A marked departure with previous Greek canon emblematic of the Hellenistic period is the depiction of the female form sans clothing, though the same treatment had been applied to the male form since at least the Orientalizing period, which began around 700 BC.
