Apologies Aren’t Good Enough. Only Action Counts. “The screaming of hens is a desperate and haunting sound. Last week as I was walking along one of the aisles in this shed a lone hen started screaming as I passed. I kept walking knowing we had taken the number of hens we had homes for. She kept screaming. I decided to go back and find her, sure she would stop before I got to her and sad that her plea may go unanswered. “She kept screaming so I managed to find her and take her from the cage. She wrapped her toes around my fingers and I held her tightly and finished checking the aisle with her. As we reached the end and turned to walk back several hens started screaming, as if they were all begging, all wanting to be that hen who was free. I had to walk away and leave them screaming, suffering. I never get emotional on rescues but walking away was so hard to do and I had tears in my eyes. I was powerless to do more than I had. I said sorry to them and walked away. “But apologies arent good enough, actions are and we are all able to take action by the choices we make.
