Apologies for last weeks misadventure with the Match Report. Hopefully this one is just as good... Match Report: Written by Jordan Rice Round 5, Thursday 15-5-14 The 7/11 Phantoms 6 def. Band of Brothers 3 THE FRIDGE KEEPS IT COOL A struggling Phantoms side were heading into the match with confidence and a new sense of life as the new jerseys were to be worn for the first time. Unfortunately, these werent ready by match time and the boys felt as if theyd conceded defeat already. The team was bolstered with the return of Daniel Naptime Munro as he missed last weeks fixture by sleeping through the game. The team line-up was standard with Jordan Sluggington Rice keeping the goals, Daniel Rash Roumieh and Daniel Death Warmed Up Munro defending while James Stank Kelly and Nathan Oink Brown were up front. An inspirational pre-match talk by all members of the squad really got the juices flowing and had the boys showing enthusiasm as they took the field. The Phantoms started with the ball and within the first 5 seconds had the opposing keeper diving to save a James Kelly rocket. The keepers wayward pass gave the boys an attacking free kick. Step up Daniel Roumieh who as cool as you like drilled the ball into the bottom corner after 15 seconds had passed. An error off the kick of by BoB handed possession straight back to the Phantoms with James Kelly making an exceptional tackle to steal the ball. James used some silky footwork to get around another player and belted the ball right between the keepers legs, hitting the back of the net on the full. This goal had the Phantoms up 2-0 after 37 seconds. This electric start started to slow with BoB gaining more confidence with the ball but the defence stood up with both Daniels tackling their hearts out and Jordan making some swift saves. The wall finally broke however, with a slight deflection changing the balls line as it rolled into the goals. 2-1 up and the boys didnt want to waste their start. A beautiful display of passing from Daniel Roumieh and James had Nathan benefitting. James putting a through ball in for Nathan who charged onto it and kicked it straight between the keepers legs. With Daniel Munro laying the platform in defence, The Phantoms were all attack. A beautiful lob back to James from Nathan had James creaming a Hal-volley to score his second of the evening. This goal also sailed between the legs of the keeper. An attacking raid from BoB had the Phantoms looking in trouble but a literal ball-and-all save by Jordan momentarily diffused the situation. Unfortunately, he was a bit worse for wear and eventually let in BoBs second goal of the night. With the score at 4-2 and half-time approaching, the Phantoms were looking for a goal to seal the match within the first period. A late free kick from halfway presented itself as this opportunity. Some rapid thinking and brilliant execution saw Daniel Roumieh rocket the ball into the top right hand corner of the goals with the keeper not in sight. This goal will be hard to beat for Goal of the Season. This ended an extremely dominant first half from the Phantoms as they led 5-2 at the break. The Phantoms main objective for the second half was to not ease up on BoB and keep the pressure on. A solid start had the Phantoms on the attack and some slick ball movement started by Daniel Munro resulted in Daniel Roumieh completing his hat-trick. The ball landed at the feet of Daniel who slotted it through the keepers legs yet again, but this one from close range. The next few minutes were back and forth with BoB getting the upper hand and with 8 left on the clock, the hit the top corner of the goals to push the score to 6-3. This goal saw the Phantoms switch Jordan out into the field for Nathan to drop back in goals. Being hampered by limited game time in recent weeks, Jordan was showing signs of rust. While maintaining the pressure, Jordan and James were setting each other up with smooth passes but nothing eventuated with the opposing keeper staying solid for the remainder of the half. The defence also worked double time at the backend of the half with both Daniels and Nathan not letting anything near the goals. Nathan kept a clean sheet for his stint in goals, proving he is more than capable in that position. The final hooter sounded and the Phantoms were back in the winners circle with a comprehensive 6-3 victory. This, along with the arrival of the new jerseys (hopefully), May be the things to spark the Phantoms 2014 Winter season. Next week, the Phantoms are coming up against an inform Limestars to try for their third win of the season. Like always, we give a special thank you to our Fantoms who even through the tough times, continue to stay loyal and support us. Everyone in the Phantoms set up is extremely grateful for your continuos encouragement.
