Appalachian Power Storm Response Summary Thursday, June 12, 2014 – 10 a.m. Appalachian Power is continuing to address considerable outages across its service territory resulting from strong winds and thunderstorms that moved through the region Tuesday and again on Wednesday. The initial storm caused significant damage to the system, including broken poles and downed wires, while the second storm hampered restoration efforts and resulted in additional outages. Weather Meteorologists are forecasting additional scattered showers and potential thunderstorms in Appalachian Power’s service area Thursday and again on Friday. The storms are not expected to cause significant outages but could delay restoration. Drier, cooler weather is expected by the weekend. Outages As of 10 a.m. Thursday, about 20,000 customers, mostly in Cabell, Kanawha, Logan and Wayne counties of West Virginia, remained without electricity, down from a high of about 67,000 customers across West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee Tuesday night. Many customers should see their service restored by Thursday night, while customers in the hardest hit areas, including Cabell, Kanawha, Logan, Mingo and Wayne counties, as well as more isolated areas may not have power until Friday night.
