Apparently there is a fun little game going on Facebook regarding breast cancer awareness. It involves posting random statements that have nothing to do with cancer. I wont post the statements and spoil peoples fun but I really do not see how it raises cancer awareness. So I will post these statistics from the American Cancer Society. About 49% of Americans will be diagnosed with some sort of cancer in their lifetimes. About 29% of new cancers in women annually is breast cancer. The good news is that the death rate is down 20% in the last 2 decades and fundraisers such as the Koman walk and the CureSearch walk for Childrens cancers provide funding for research for treatments that provide hope for survivors and their families. Do you want to help raise awareness? Participate in a walk or donate to organizations associated with cancer research and/or assistance to patients. Be aware of risk factors and keep up to date on early diagnostic testing such as mammograms and colonoscopies.
