Apparently, theres another posting challenge going around Facebook, this one being to list ten books/series that have touched or influenced you in some way. I was nominated by Cassera Gibson, so heres my list ( in no particular order). 1. Sarum by Edward Rutherford 2. Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein 3. Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham 4. The Jungle by Upton Sinclair 5. McTeague by Frank Norris 6. Animal Farm by George Orwell 7. The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Warren 8. The Sword of Shannara series by Terry Brooks 9. Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss 10. The Cuthulhu Mythos by H.P. lovecraft Sarum is historical fiction about stonehenge and is a reminder that we dont know who or what came before nor will many of us be remembered even by our future decendents. I like to think on what came before. Stranger made me see the world from the eyes of another and taught me that if you love someone you need to give them 100% of your attention some times. Of Human Bondage is all full of advice, such as the history of mankind: He was born, he lived, he died. The Jungle taught me that we need to look out for our fellow man, McTeaugue that we should not be greedy and Animal Farm that power corrupts. All important lessons. The Front Runner was the first novel I read that had gay content, and in a world without the internet, let me know I was not alone. The Shannara series were the first fantasy books I read and started a life long love of fantasy/scifi. Swiss family....always a handy book if you are shipwrecked. And lastly Cuthulhu scared me silly as a kid...be afraid very afraid. Nominations: ALL IF YOU! Jess Provencio Adelio Havens Elizabeth Powell Sherry Vega Su Poole Darlene Andreotti Flanders Ewing Setchel Tracy Neiswender Doc Wright Jody D Owens If youve already done this, please tag me in a comment on your post so I can check it out.
