Apparently theres been a lot of conflicting opinions with the movie American Sniper. Some find Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) and his loyality/pride for his country compelling, motivating and inspirational. Others feel as though his hate he portrayed toward people living in the Middle East was extreme prejudice, and is only reinforcing this assumption we have in the U.S. that they are evil and inhuman. Theres no doubt about it--Bradley Cooper gave an outstanding performance. But do you think the movie went too far with portraying people living in the Middle East as evil? I, for one, think the movie is the story of the psychological journey of Chris Kyle. It shows us not only the physical, but the mental/emotional challenges of going to war and what it can do to a person. You can tell that Chris is haunted by the fact he killed 160 (or more) people, including a child. I think the reason he keeps saying that the people he shot are evil is because its helping him cope & justify his actions. Anyway, I know this was long, but I want to hear your opinions! I can definitely see how the movie could offend or rub people the wrong way. But again, I dont think the intention was to spread prejudice and hate. Thoughts?
