Apparently, trending on FB now is #ImSoChicago. The idea is youre supposed to demonstrate your old school/authentic Chicagoness by coming up with statements that start with Im so Chicago... So, here are my entries: --Im so Chicago, Morrie Mages was my store for sports --Im so Chicago, I used to practice getting a ball into bucket number six just in case I ever got on Bozos Circus --Im so Chicago, I went to the Howalton Day School (started by a group of African-American teachers who were dissatisfied with CPS; it was the precursor to all Chicago Charter schools) --Im so Chicago, I rode roller coasters in the wintertime at Old Chicago. --Im so Chicago, I shopped with my mom at I Magnin on North Michigan Ave. --Im so Chicago, I drove on South Park Way before it was renamed King Drive (albeit, I was a baby) --Im so Chicago, I watched Water Tower Place being built --Im so Chicago, everyone got their shoes at Chernins --Im so Chicago, when I needed a book Id go to Krochs & Brentanos --Im so Chicago, when Id go to Krochs & Brentanos in the winter, Id have to dress warm because River Oaks was an outside mall --Im so Chicago, I still cant get the jingle Fun Town, Fun Town for the Kids and you. 95th & Stony Island Avenue. Fun Town! out of my head. --Im so Chicago, dinner at the Tropical Hut Restaurant on Stony was big deal --Im so Chicago, a pop culture icon was Mr. T (when I worked as a water boy in a restaurant, he came in and said to me I pity the fool that dont put more water in my glass!) --Im so Chicago, I played Centipede at the Rubus Game Room --Im so Chicago, I saw many a movie at the Esquire, McClurg Court, Water Tower, River Oaks, State & Lake, and Chicago theaters (i.e. all these places were movie theaters back in the day) --Im so Chicago, you had to take Roosevelt Road almost to Oak Park before youd find a grocery or big box store. --Im so Chicago, during most of my life, the South Loop hadnt been invented --Im so Chicago, if you were going downtown, you meant north of Lake Meadows. --Im so Chicago, I used to go see the circus at Medinah Temple (yup, the place thats now a Bloomingdales Home store) --Im so Chicago, I would get on the Els Green Line at Stony Island --Im so Chicago, I used to try to sneak into my brothers club meetings (his club, that put on parties, was called the Detectives and their rivals were the Doctors). --Im so Chicago, I was literally in the house when House Music was invented #TheWarehouse #ThePowerPlant #FrankieKnuckles
