Appeal for Flood damage relief in Goalpara District, Assam Dear supporters, This fundraising appeal is to provide immediate support to inhabitants of 6 villages near Agia, Goalpara district, Assam with total population around 1,500 who have not received adequate government relief after a large flash flood earlier in September caused large scale loss of life, dwelling, and loss of livelihood. The amount necessary immediately in those 6 villages (total population of ~1,500) is $10,000 ~ INR6,00,000, based on data collected from the villagers by PSC volunteers. It serves two specific immediate-term objectives (before winter sets in this year): Do the minimal repair necessary to the most severely damaged homes in those villages, so that the people can survive the winter. Total number of houses badly damaged: 219 Replace/repair units of the taatxaal (traditional handloom equipment used for weaving traditional clothes) for the most impacted families to restore critical livelihood to enable people to slowly restore the rest of their lives. Total ‘taatxaal’s damaged/destroyed: 123 The need in those villages is much higher, but this smaller amount is critically needed by those villages before winter sets in.Requesting your generous donation by Nov. 15 to provide this much needed assistance.
