Apple has been working on technology capable of disabling a mobile - TopicsExpress

Apple has been working on technology capable of disabling a mobile phones texting capacity while the user is driving a vehicle. A new patent by the technology giant could “change the culture” and help stop driver distraction with an automated system that would disable certain smartphone functions when an iPhone user is driving. There are numerous apps available that have the same function, but they are all user initiated. If the phone manufacturers were able to develop this technology, so that it activated automatically, is it something youd like to see included as standard safety equipment in all new vehicles? Vehicle features such as EBS/ABS (emergency/anti-lock braking system) and ESC (electronic stability control) are increasingly becoming standard features of new cars, so is it really a stretch to imagine this technology part of new vehicles in the next few years? theguardian/technology/2014/apr/24/apples-iphone-lock-out-patent-could-end-texting-while-driving?utm_source=ETSC&utm_campaign=9c5dd0ca8f-Safety_Monitor_91_May_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_3a7b55edbf-9c5dd0ca8f-103266729
