Approaching Comet C/2012 S1 ISON - Updates Currently, Comet ISON is about 249 million kilometers away from Earth traveling at a speed of 37.59 km/s relative to the Sun. It will continue to accelerate steadily until November 28 when it is expected to whip around the Sun at an astonishing speed of 377 km/s. New studies suggests that ISON just could make it through its close perihelion passage near the Sun.
