Appropriation of an idea: annexation and twisting the meaning or import of an idea or concept to take advantage of a current trend or to weaken the concept by muddying or confusing it. Im not sure that appropriation is /always/ a deliberate tactic, like turning the tables, because it depends a lot on ones sensitivity to a base meaning for a word or concept. If one has only an approximate definition of a word, then extrapolation to similar contexts is so much easier, like the overlap of fog banks, condensing fog into fog. Examples: forcing boys and girls to share bathrooms is bullying. Bullying, mind you. This coming from the same people who say that the anti-bullying movement is really an anti-Christian movement — bullying Christians — spawned of the gay agenda, and who insist you can morally bully as long as you claim “a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction.” (And you cant push back on those types of people because then it becomes religious persecution and a violation of their religious rights.) Approximative or deliberate? Another example: Palins frontier feminism where feminism was recast to be about motherhood balancing a career rather than full individual rights to self-determination that equals those of any man. Approximative or deliberate?
