Approximately 100 Little Hands arrived at the Nicolaysen Discovery - TopicsExpress

Approximately 100 Little Hands arrived at the Nicolaysen Discovery Center on Tuesday to initiate the 2013-2014 year! We were pleased to see some families returning from last year and thrilled that there were so many new faces in the 50(ish) children participating. The center was filled with art station exploration before our morning meeting. We explored the many ways we can move the body parts suggested by the children. Feet on legs not only move but also move us. Noses are a bit more limited. Our mouths continued to move while enjoying a snack of apple slices, peanut butter, marshmallows, and pretzel sticks. The first three ingredients peanut buttered together made a toothy grin, smiling and happy for the first day of Little Hands. The sidewalk of the outdoor area became a canvas for chalk art. Displayed were flowers, stars, scribbles, names, numbers, and a variety of hop scotch games. The children also used the grassy area for running and connecting with old and new friends. The drain hole cover in that area became a leaf drop and a wonderful mystery of the deep. Thank you to all of the families who have already signed up to bring snack. As the group is growing, please consider signing up with another family to help defray the expense. Also if you plan to include peanuts or peanut butter, please let us know beforehand so that we can alert those with allergies. Remember that art is not always a neat and tidy activity and dress for a possible mess. Paint and glue are often part of the plan. We are excited to see you all again next week!
