April 19th — Holy Saturday We take a moment on Holy Saturday to reflect with contrition and resolve: “The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles who will mock him, spit upon him, scourge him, and put him to death, but after three days he will rise.” (Mark 10:33-34) Today, Jesus, the Light of the World, lies lifeless in His tomb. Weary from the depth of emotion experienced during the Passion, we rest this day, just as the women who followed Jesus did before going to anoint Jesus’ body. Mary is our example today. She quietly mourns, but she does not despair. We mourn with her. But our hope is in Christ and in His Apostle, St. Jude. That’s why for us, there is always hope. Even on the darkest day of the liturgical year, we can look to tomorrow with hope.
