. Archaeologists call an excavation site on Istanbuls southern shore the worlds largest shipwreck collection. The area, unearthed during construction of a railway station, was once a Byzantine-era port that harbored cargo and military vessels, and received goods from around the Mediterranean... Unearthed in Istanbul’s Yenikapı, the Harbor of Theodisius dates back to the 4th century A.D. The excavations undertaken here and onsite in Üsküdar and Sirkeci have produced an archaeological splendor of remains from the Ottoman, Byzantine, Roman, Ancient Greek and Neolithic periods.
