Gorrie moved to Winnipeg in the late 1990s to pursue post secondary education, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts 05 and Master of Architecture 09. Chasing the Animate follows Gorries explorations of image making that reside between model and drawing created by an active medium, smoke. Gorrie uses a method by which lingering smoke billows over his drawing surface and leaves traces. Like moving paint, the smoke finds its way onto the surface. rawgallery.ca/ Title: Maandaw Igaan Mazinibii’igan ᒪᑐᐤᐃ ᑰ ᓐᓯᓀᐱᐦᐃᑯᓐ Group Exhibition of Aboriginal Architecture Artists: Russel Everett, Ryan Gorrie, Rachelle Lemieux, Cheyenne Thomas, David Thomas, Destiny Seymour, Eladia Smoke October 24 to November 8, 2014 Opening at 8pm on Friday, October 24, 2014 Location: Urban Shaman Main Gallery, 203-290 McDermot Avenue urbanshaman.org Jeana Klassen, Food for Thought lecture October 28, noon Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, Russell Building events.umanitoba.ca/EventList.aspx… Luke Leung lecture October 30th, 6 p.m. Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, Russell Building Luke Leung, Director of the MEP + Sustainable Engineering Studio for SOM, delivers the James Palmer Lewis Lecture at 6:00pm at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture. events.umanitoba.ca/EventList.aspx… David Russell-Input/Output : Sense & Scale November 4, noon Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, Russell Building Vivian Manasc, Vivian Manasc Architecture,Edmonton November 5th, 6 p.m. Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, Russell Building events.umanitoba.ca/EventList.aspx… Laura Harjo, Assistant professor at the University of New Mexico, School of Architecture and Planning, November 6th, 6PM Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, Russell Building events.umanitoba.ca/EventList.aspx… Architecture+Film Series Wednesday 5 November 2014, 7 p.m. Cinematheque, 100 Arthur Street. A leader in the deconstructivist movement and the only woman to receive the Pritzker Prize (the Nobel Prize of architecture), Zara Hadid strives to push the laws of gravity. Born in Baghdad in 1950 and now based in London, Hadid is at the peak of her career. Yet this has not always been the case. She once had a reputation of being a “paper architect,” whose projects were impossible to build. How did this extraordinary woman—by turns charming, stubborn, visionary and yet exacting—come to design the impossible?
