Are You Allergic to Your iPad? Patients who are allergic to the metal nickel can develop allergic reactions when they are in contact with nickel. Jewelry can cause contact reactions if the metal in the jewelry contains even small amounts of nickel. Personal electronic devices such as laptops, cell phones and Apple iPads may contain nickel and also can cause allergic reactions. Reactions to nickel can resemble allergic reactions to poison ivy. They can be red, itchy and contains fluid filled bumps. The rashes may take two to three days to show up and may therefore be tricky to diagnose. 17 percent of women and 3 percent of men in the general population have nickel allergies.
