Are virus encoded proteins that cause hemorrhagic fevers coming to a place near you? It appears that the media would like us to think so. Do you think its a load of codswallop to divert our attention away from something else going on or are we on the verge of a pandemic? Quote from WHO; countries with well-developed health systems and services are unlikely to see much – if any – onward transmission of Ebola virus disease following an imported case. I think that the fear and rumours are more widespread than the virus. However, the real tragedy is that we are now 40 years on from the first appearance of Ebola in the virology world. These countries affected still have no vaccine. Perhaps there is a silver lining for sub-Saharan people in so far as the fear of the developed nations might finally force the breakthrough to combat and prevent future outbreaks. In the meantime, when our focus is driven back to mid-term elections or other worldly events what little is left of their fragile and battered economies will be decimated more than the population.
