Are we allowed to use Abbreviations like SWT, SAW, ASLK, WSLM ,JZK, BRK, WYK? A) Yes B) No C) Only when lazy D) Only when in a hurry Answer is B) No❗️ The Islamic greeting is As-salaamu Alaykum… writing it abbreviated consists of many prohibitions some of them are as follows: It is an innovation; when the Prophet wrote a letter to Heraclius, he wrote: As-salaamu Alaa manittaba al-Huda (peace be upon those who follow the Guidance). The Prophet did not write the abbreviations. The Prophet said: “Whoever innovates anything in this matter of ours that is not part of it, will have it rejected.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim] Using abbreviations of Salah on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) instead of complete expressions of invoking blessings on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) is not allowed as stated clearly by the ancient and contemporary scholars. As for using abbreviations such as (AS), and (RAA), it is disliked according to a group of scholars including Ibn As-Salah and An-Nawawi .
