Are we really free? Foreign domination in exploiting our natural resources. Look at the foreign multi - corporations exploiting our forests, fishery, minerals, oil and gas. Is that being free? More than 80% of the businesses in the country are still operated by foreigners. Even businesses that should have been reserved for locals. Is that being free? Foreigners are still doing jobs that locals can do. Go into the shops and retail outlets and see who is doing what while PNGeans are still struggling to find a job. Is that being free? Prime lands in towns and cities are being sold out to foreigners while we are struggling to find a land to build a home forcing us to live in the settlements. Is that being free? Fake and counterfeit goods are freely selling on streets and store shelves. Not even PNG made. Is that being free? Our education institutions are not producing designers and inventors to design and manufacture our own technologies and machines. Is that being free? We dont train and produce our own medical specialists to treat all medical conditions in the country. People are dying of preventable diseases while politicians can afford the high cost of medical treatment in overseas. Is that being free? We always hire expensive foreign consultants for the first of its kind in the country. We always go to overseas to learn about very simple things that we can use the Internet to learn. Our education institutions can not produce the skilled labour we need for the first of its kind. Is that being free? The cost of living in the country is one of the highest in the world. We cant afford to rent a decent home with our fortnight salary. We cant afford three meals a day. Is that being free? Go to hotels and restaurants. You only see foreigners with only high class PNG citizens. Low class PNG citizens cant afford to enjoy such a good meal or stay one night with their salary. Is that being free? Foreigners are paid more than the locals for doing the same job. Locals are still employed by foreigners as laborers with with poor working conditions struggling to survive the high cost of living in the country. Is that being free? We have brought Australian policemen to solve our law and order problems. We still have foreign advisors in key and strategic government departments and agencies. Is that being free? We are still not free! Our leaders must stop preaching and do more than dreaming. The realities of being free cant be observed in the country. We need to do more to empower our own people to be in charge of all our affairs of the country.
