Are women in Lawrence getting paid more than $160 million less - TopicsExpress

Are women in Lawrence getting paid more than $160 million less than men a year? From what I can tell, yes. In an attempt to find the gender pay gap in Lawrence, Kansas Ive been doing some of my own math... According to the US census bureau, the average working woman in Lawrence makes $6,497 a year less than the average individual man. Of the 49,600 people in the citys workforce, 49.8% of them should be women (if the workforce reflects the general populations demographic). This would mean 24,701 women are working for for 69.6% of the income of men on average. When totaled, that equates to $160, 482,387 in wages lost by the women of Lawrence every year. This blows my mind. Those millions of dollars of income could mean more consumption for local businesses and more tax revenues for public schools and services. If this pisses you off and you want to do something about it, fill out this form (goo.gl/khpd3X) so you can get involved with the Cities for CEDAW initiatve in Lawrence. #EqualPay
