Are you a runner? I have always enjoyed running - and I love it - TopicsExpress

Are you a runner? I have always enjoyed running - and I love it for so many reasons. It is not my only exercise anymore, though - I weight train primarily and I dont strive to just keep doing more.....I have learned to work smarter and to do what keeps me healthy, injury-free, and at my best body composition. I used to *only* run, but what happened is that I lost most of my muscle in the process and I was always hungry and I was prone to fatigue and injury. So, as I developed and learned more about how the body works (and in my case, how MY body worked BEST) I realized that running longer and longer was not the best strategy for me to not only get the body I wanted, but also to become a better, faster runner. In those days, I was keen on doing Half Marathons and 10ks. So I developed some of my own training strategies to help me achieve my goal finish times. I wasnt feeling that I was getting any better by just running more. So I started running less. I started basing my Half Marathon training on perfecting my 5k. I rarely did long runs (until necessary) but I devoted my time to my strength and speed over the shorter distances. I trained my body to run 5k at my goal pace so that when I finished I still had more in the tank and could potentially keep going forever (ok, thats an exaggeration - but really I mean that I didnt feel the need to stop after 5k). The result was phenomenal - by my third Half Marathon I finished with my goal time of 1:45 (5min / km pace) -- and after only about 5-6 months of training in this way (my previous finish was 2:02). And to top it off, I also finished third in a small, local 5K race because of my hard-core devotion to perfecting my 5K :) I added this article in the comments below because it talks about this method of training becoming popular with elite runners - lots of good info. If you are interested in learning how to train this way, I have my ***8 week Online Run Club*** now available, which is my step-by-step guide to train you to run faster and smarter while also building on cross-training and utilizing fat-loss nutrition strategies.
