Are you interested in Media Justice? Media Literacy Project is currently looking for volunteers for our upcoming events. MLP is a local non-profit organization that works to make media accessible to everyone, with emphasis on historically underrepresented groups, and teaches people how to be critical media consumers. We are looking for volunteers to help at our 20th Anniversary party on Friday, November 15th from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. We are celebrating our 20th year of Media Literacy with a 90’s themed bash! There will be raffles, silent auctions, a cash bar, food, and good music complete with dance off. You can choose to volunteer for the entire time or in one hour increments. All volunteers get into the event for free, and we would love for you to celebrate with us! In November, we are looking for people to canvass with us for our Barelas Mesh Network Project. The goal of this project is to build an internet mesh network in the neighborhood of Barelas, which would provide access to Wi-Fi for everyone in the area. This is a historically low-income neighborhood of color in which many of the people within have not achieved a high school diploma. Access to internet provides opportunities for better job searches, resources for school, as well as distance learning opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering for either of these events, or would like to learn more about how you can be involved with Media Literacy Project, please contact Monica Alvarez by phone: (505)699-8631 or e-mail: [email protected].
