“Are you not TIRED of ENDING in the same SPOT?” “Repeating the same PATTERNS in RELATIONSHIPS – FRIENDSHIPS?” Break the CYCLE! Essential Spirituality: Practice Number 2: Target Area = Cultivate Emotional Wisdom: Heal the Heart and Learn to Love! Emotional Fitness = Loving Heart! Emotional Understanding: Self SECURE and SINCERE! Too many of us suffer from = GRAVE EMOTIONAL DISORDERS! The PATH to LOVE has been fraught with PAIN – ANGER – JEALOUSY – INSECURITY – ABUSE: Things we have learned from DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES and from ALCHOLIC - DRUG ADDICTED PARENTS and our ENVIRONMENTS! Most of us have learned DIABOLICAL Habits as coping mechanisms. Then we are stuck with VICIOUS CYCLES and are unable to break them leading to unhappy and often violent lives with no TRUST – NO LOVE = We become mini DEVILS! There are CAUSES and CONDITIONS unique to each of us! Healing ONE SELF is not just going to Church and PRAYING = REACH DEEP in the SELF and identify blocks to your INNER BEAUTY and touch others and stop HURTING: There is no MYSTERY to who you are RIGHT NOW: Start Here = Reduce fear and anger; cultivate love and gratitude. Our task is to reduce harmful emotions such as fear and anger and to cultivate helpful emotions such as love and gratitude. Our culture has confused love and addiction. Yet mature love is based more on sufficiency and wholeness than deficiency and fear. Some have distinguished eros, philia and agape. The eros love is often seeking fulfillment --passionate and at time blind. The philia love -- friendship -- includes more sensitivity to persons. The agape love at its highest excludes no one. It is boundless and without conditions. Spiritual love has no desire to get but only to give, no goal except to awaken itself within others, no need except to share itself. Being unconditional, it never fails or falters: being boundless, it embraces all. (p. 75) The greater love is a share in the Great Love. Exercises to Reduce Fear and Anger: (a) Move from victim to creator, (b) Explore fear, (c) Stay with Fear, (d) Do what you fear and fear will disappear, (e) Recognize the costs of anger, (f) Communicate about anger, (g) Recall your own mistakes, (h) Recall the good, (i) Think of loving people, (j) Give to forgive, (k) Practice a forgiveness meditation -- forgiveness does not mean condoning; it is a relinquishment of ones resentments, not a relinquishment of ones ethics. Exercises to Cultivate Gratitude and Love: (a) Say grace, (b) Recall helpful people. (c) Set aside a day of thankfulness, (d) Recall loving people, (e) Recognize that you will receive what you offer now, (f) Practice all-encompassing love, (g) Practice loving kindness meditation.The Higher Reaches of Love: Transpersonal love is a participation in the Great Love -- part of us and also part of the cosmos, not limited to our individual minds but part of the universal Mind, Spirit or God. It is part of us and we are part of it. Rumi says: Ecstatic love is an ocean. And the Milky Way is a flake of foam floating on that ocean. HEALING – JUSTICE – HOPE!
