With Liberal and Nationals proposing cuts to education at both the federal and state level, we know our kids deserve better support so they can have a better future -- and as union members, were doing our bit to help them get there. Every year UnionsNSW awards a scholarship to one metropolitan and one rural or regional year 11 student with an interest in history, economics or social justice. Offered in partnership with the Public Education Foundation, the $2,500 scholarship can be used to assist with education related expenses such as textbooks, computers, internet access, software, excursions, tutoring and mentoring. He spent almost a year in cramped accommodation with six other children, not knowing what the future held he is now completing his HSC at Holroyd High and looking to tertiary education with the assistance of UnionsNSW. A selection panel will select successful candidates based on: Evidence of interest in designated subjects; Participation in both curricular and extra-curricular activities; Ability to demonstrate that the scholarship will have a significant impact in helping the student to successfully complete secondary schooling; and Personal circumstances that would enhance the candidates suitability for this scholarship.
