Are you preparing for your first Holiday Craft Show / Market? Here are my tips to make your Holiday successful and fun! 10 Ways to Maximize your success at a Holiday Market 1. Use a credit card reader. I use a Square--the square and App are FREE. 2.75% fee. No monthly fees. Easy to use. It comes with a sign to let customers know you accept cards. 2. Do a dress rehearsal and set up everything as you will that day. Have more than enough inventory. Before you pack up, take photos of your displays. This way you can reference these photos for a quicker set-up and to know exactly what you sold. Create a “Take to Market” list. 3. Have clear, visible, and easy pricing, keeping prices simple. I once had a sign, All you see for $33. Shoppers want to know without asking. 4. If it is not clear from a distance what your item is or how it is used, have photos to give the stollers an idea before they approach. 5. If you offer custom items, make sure shoppers pay in advance and you agree on a delivery date and who pays for postage. Get their email so you can keep them updated. 6. Collect email addresses so you can engage with your buyers year-round. Since I use Mail Chimp to send eNewsletters (free) I use Chimpadeedoo (also free, for iPad or iPhone) to easily collect them. If they hand-write their info on a pad, be sure it is legible. 7. It really pays to have a beautiful banner that reflects your branding. Vistaprint has very affordable rates. 8. Include How to use and care for your ____ cards, and have beautiful packaging. Print a ton of business cards making sure shoppers can find you locally, online and on social media. 9. Keep track of all your sales and sales tax. Provide receipts for cash transactions. 10. Engage with your customers and smile. You love what you do, so show it. I prefer to stand and greet my customers rather than sit in the background. Some artists sit while creating their pieces and customers love that. Many booths are so well-priced and categorized that shoppers can intuitively browse on their own and just come to you for checkout. But stay poised to answer their questions. Have fun and make wonderful friends and memories
