Are you right with God? If you are... then on what basis? On the basis of your good works? Or on the basis of a gift through faith? And if your righteousness is on the basis of Christs gift and not your good works... then what effect can your bad works have on this gift? I want you to see the Scriptures clearly on this matter. Understanding this has everything to do with your faith and its ability to stand firm in God or not. Jesus said that a servant doesnt remain forever... but a son does. [Jn. 8:25] Hebrews says that Moses was a servant IN the house... but Christ is the Son OVER Gods house. [Heb. 3:5] God told Abram once that the inheritance wouldnt go to his servant... but to his son. [Gen. 15:4] This was reaffirmed later when Sarah, in agreement with the will of God declared that the slave womans son wouldnt share the inheritance with her free son. [Gen. 21:10] You see... the promises and inheritance of God were never expected to come through Moses... or the law principle of inheritance through obedience ...and the slavery that the law-principle produced. It was always intended to come one way only... to the son through promise! Galatians 3:16-18 - The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ. What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise. Hear this: What came as a promise 430 years BEFORE the arrival of the Law... remains UNAFFECTED ...by the Law! Now let me apply this to your life!! When you accepted Christ... you became a joint-heir... a co-heir in the promises that were planned for Him from the beginning. These promises are there because they belonged to Christ...and now you are in Him. Whats His... is also yours! What came to you through a promise... cannot be undone by Law. Gods promise to you remains unaffected by your law-keeping... for good or bad. Once you identified with Christ...HIS promises... became yours... and law... the principle of receiving the inheritance through your doing... cannot disrupt or annul what had been already established apart from it!! Are you keeping the law? It doesnt establish your righteousness before God. Are you breaking the law? It doesnt remove the righteousness that came to you by promise APART from the Law! Back to the original question: Are you right with God? The answer lies in whether youve accepted Jesus or not. Your righteousness is not based on your law-keeping. Its based on a promise. If you are in Christ... then you ...ARE... RIGHT... with God!!
