Arguably, the top HIV/AIDS news story of the year (certainly in the latter half of this year) has been around the use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), the once-daily drug therapy known to significantly reduce the risk of acquiring HIV. While there remains some debate around PrEP--with some like Michael Weinstein of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation calling it a party drug--most data doesnt seem to suggest that. (Often, in fact, just the opposite.) That said, there is still a lot we need to learn in order to assess the real world effectiveness of the strategy. Here is the first of three articles on the subject:
