What is mosaic art? History of Mosaic Art in Handicrafts (Wood Industries) In order to achieve the history of art works made of wood, the more we look at back, the less knowledge we attain in this regard. The history of wooden works is divided into the following eras in Iran in the view of similarities in technical and art characteristics of the said works. • Pre-Islam Eras including ancient civilizations, Achaemenian, Parthian and Sasanian Dynasties • Primary Islamic Centuries: Booyeh, Kharazmshahi Samani, and the early Saljuk • Middle Islamic Era: Saljuk, Ilkhani and Teimouri dynasties • Safavid Dynasty • New Eras: Zandieh, Afsharieh, Qajar and other dynasties and contemporary era Mosaic Work: Kinds of color timbers are used in mosaic works namely sea-buckthorn, fig peach, Jujube, sour orange, walnut, Box Tree, Acacia, Berry, buttonwood, Ash tree, Alder, Planer Tree, Van, Ebony, Pine Tree and the ones. The said timbers are cut in various sizes for about 5 mm in diameter and after they are dried, they are provided for mosaic workers. Other materials may also be used in mosaic works as well. The said materials are of two types: Natural Materials Synthetic Materials Natural Materials are namely Ivory, Bone and Shell Synthetic Materials: Artificial Shell, Mosaic, Copper and Zinc Time for development and completing of an art work: It changes from one week to one year depending on size, dimensions, volume and pattern. However, considering working method of Arianna Group, no synthetic materials are used. The entire work is made of wood. The images, which you observe, have been classified into two groups. The first group consists of the images of mosaic tables. The second group comprises types of paintings, which are divided into two subgroups: The first subgroup consists of thin-cut mosaic works (script) The second group comprises main mosaic works (pattern and landscape) After completing wooden cuts, fixed on the main board, all mosaic works are sent to paint unit for polishing, polyester or killer works accordingly. Mosaic paintings are basically divided into two groups: The first group consists of the art works, which are entirely made of wood and the main background of the same is made of wood accordingly. The second group consists of the art works, which are made of wood and polyester. After completing and fixing all wood cuts on the main background, parts of the main background is polished, in simple pattern or a combination of paints, using polyester. Sale of Art Works: Sine many hours are spent for creating an art work and all cuts are done using hands, mosaic works of Arianna Group are not created in mass. Only one work is created considering each. Sales price of the art work depends on size and number of wood cuts and time spent for completion of the said work. Respective art work is really precious. Art works of the said group are sent to any places all over the globe and respective fee is collected upon completing legal and commercial formalities.
