Arizona had a single team at the 2014 American Royal this year and that was Loot N Booty BBQ. To say that they represented our growing barbeque tradition well would be an understatement. Not only did they do the Grand Canyon State proud, they left no doubt that we know a thing or two about cooking up some seriously good barbeque! On Saturday, at the Invitational, Loot N Booty BBQ took 1st Place in the Chicken category and did so with a perfect 180 point score! That is their second 180 in Chicken this year and this time on one of the biggest stages in competition barbeque! They also earned a 7th Place call in Ribs! Pork came in at 142nd and Brisket at 154th resulting in a finish of 86th Overall. The Open, held on Sunday, proved to be even more exciting than the Invitational. The official scoring lists 551 teams and Loot N Booty BBQ started the contest with 56th Chicken (174.2856) and followed that up with 102nd Ribs (170.8572). As you can see, the scores for both of these entries are very high. You may recall that LNB had a tough day in Pork at the Sams Club Final but what a difference a week makes because their entry at the AR Open earned 2nd Place (179.4400) and was a single Appearance point away from another 180 point score! Their final category of the day, Brisket, placed 19th (176.5600). Well save you the trouble of adding up those scores and tell you that they total 701.1428 and earned Loot N Booty BBQ the title of Reserve Grand Champion and the 2014 American Royal Open! This is a fantastic accomplishment and the barbeque community in Arizona couldnt be happier or prouder!
