Arnold Goldstein, better known to people around the Needham - TopicsExpress

Arnold Goldstein, better known to people around the Needham Channel studio as “Arnie” has been an avid volunteer since 1986. Goldstein began doing camera for old Needham Channel shows in the late 1980’s and also volunteered to do camera work for Needham Rocket sports. He also was a camera man for the stations extensive coverage of the annual Town Meeting (not to mention, getting home at 1:00am following the cleanup) and he learned how to edit on the old linear editing system. But then Arnie got his on-air debut on the then-titled, “Needham Cable News.” When an audition call was announced to the public for anchor positions on the new Needham Cable News program, several male and female anchors auditioned for the part. While the auditions were taking place, Goldstein was running the audio board for the talent as they were reading from their scripts. “The Producer came up to me and another guy in the control room after everyone had cleared out and said, ‘there’s only a little more video tape to fill up on here, come on down and you two try it out.” Sure enough with just a little bit of tape to fill, the new anchor position was given to Goldstein following his performance in front of the camera. Arnie has been the main anchor of the station’s flagship program since 1987. And when Needham Channel News is mentioned to anyone, or myself in particular, the first name that always comes to my mind is Arnie Goldstein. Prior to being married in 1970 and calling Needham his home, Goldstein was raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and received a B.S from Northeastern University in 1960. He was also discharged from the United States Army as a medic in 1966 – before the major chaos began in the Vietnam War. “[The fact that] I never went to Vietnam was lucky. If I were ordered to go there, I would have [had] every intention to, but I’m not complaining.” *Arnie was in a television commercial contest and came in third place. The person who was judged to be a bit better came in second place; the late Rodney Dangerfield. *Arnie holds a 4th degree black belt in Karate and is currently is studying for his 5th. The maximum number of black belt levels = 10. Arnie’s piece of advice to anyone going into the industry “Have fun with the work. Hopefully it will lead to a job in the field as many have done so. The greatest thing is to do whatever you want to do. The sky is the limit.” greisnet/TNCNews.nsf/I090705-4!OpenPage
